More information

Yorkshire Craft Festival is a celebration of local crafting talent from spinning to blacksmithing, showcasing the many facets of modern crafting, and it is held only a stone's throw from the famous Shambles placing it right in the heart of the city.

Demos and workshops

This awesome autumn event is running for 11 days throughout October with different demonstrations and workshops available each day. It’s well worth timing a visit to York to coincide with the festival and max out on finding a crafty new pursuit.

You’ll have a chance to try your hand at some metalwork workshops with Chimp Forge and Must Forge who will instruct you on how to make your very own metal rose and local ceramicist Natasha Jackson will be offering demonstrations in the techniques used to make ceramics and workshop sessions for those who want to learn how to ‘throw a pot’ and paint a ceramic piece.

Get your weave on

The welcoming Artists Around Wetherby Group are offering demonstrations of various painting and drawing techniques and will talk you through the basics of art theory and techniques in their workshops, no matter your skill level.

Weaving and spinning might seem like the hobby of a Disney villain, but it is on the up, and perfectly timed to get involved before debuting your Maleficent Halloween costume! The York & District Guild of Weaving, Spinning & Dyers will be showing off several techniques worthy of your favourite witch.

Last but definitely not least, comes workshops and demonstrations by Jemma at Riverbend Flowers showing you how to arrange flowers, look after them longer, and wreath making. It’s the best time of year for wreaths, with all the autumn colours available so why not use this opportunity to create a seasonal autumn wreath to hang on your front door?
