Get hygge with our fav events for a cosy February

Various, UK

We’ve found nine very select winter events to create a warming glow.

February 26, 2024

Hygge is a Danish concept bringing together feelings of comfort and warmth. Here are our top activities to get a bit of that in your life:

Candle Making, Brighton

Nothing says hygge like a gently flickering candle. Make your very own candles with essential oils, fragrances and colour dyes, using 100% pure Eco-Soy wax in this relaxing two-hour workshop.

‍The Midnight Apothecary, London

This is one of London’s best kept secrets, hidden away on top of the Brunel Museum Tunnel Shaft in Rotherhithe, South London. The Midnight Apothecary serves up seasonal botanical cocktails around a communal firepit. S’mores kits are available to toast over your own individual hearth surrounded by your mates so grab your chunky knits and toasty boots and cosy up the evening.

‍Thames River Sightseeing Cruise with Afternoon Tea

Take in iconic London from the cosy confines of a river boat with a pot of tea and crusts off sandwiches; does it get cosier than that? What, and there’s a selection of cakes too? All aboard.

Dark Skies Fringe Festival, South Downs (10-18 February)

Wrap up in a warm hat, scarf, and gloves for the Dark Skies Fringe Festival in the South Downs. There will be plenty of after dark stargazing events during this festival. The  velvet night has never been more inviting.

Cocktail class course Manchester

Celebrate the end of (dry) January with a bevy of delicious cocktails. This masterclasses at an award winning central Manchester venue (Best Neighbourhood Bar 2023 no less) teaches you how to create a perfect serve negroni, an aperol spritz and a margarita with this one-day beginner level introduction course to cocktails. Bottoms up!

The Big Bake, London and Birmingham

If hygge is about comfort, then a fat slice of cake hits the mark.  Bake up a storm in a mock-up of big white tent. All equipment and ingredients are included, and the Big Bake team will even do the washing up for you. With a head baker on hand to help, you and your mates will easily make bakes worthy of Paul Hollywood (though sadly the big man and his handshakes won’t be on there in person).

Pottery Making Experience, London

Have a shot at making your own pot from scratch, perfectly catered to beginners. This workshop will take you through the steps from making, to firing, to painting with a professional to help and guide you through the stages.

Private pottery class

Just because you’re based up north doesn’t mean you should miss out! You too can get your hands dirty with a private pottery class.

The world of Beatrix Potter

Even if she didn’t know the concept Beatrix Potter was the mistress of hygge. Think the Flopsy Bunnies tucked in the burrow and the Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle. This tour takes in all the places that gave her inspiration.
